Frontier History

The colonial frontier was a interesting, and often deadly, place to live. Native Americans clashed with European settlers, as Europeans pushed westward over the Appalachian Mountains. The French, British, and Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy manuevered and fought for control of the Northwest Territory during the French and Indian War. Eventually, British Loyalists and their native allies waged war against Patriots and their native allies on the frontier during the American Revolution. The conflict along the northern frontier was finally settled, when American General Anthony Wayne defeated allied native tribes in 1794, at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The battle ended about 50 years of sporadic conflict, clearing they way for American settlement.
